Ok, so after resuming the whole livejournal thing, I’ve reached the conclusion that I like it.  Plus, some people actually read it.  I HONESTLY didn’t think that would happen.  If you ever want to reply to me privately or so extensively that you don’t feel like a posted reply could be big enough, you should be able to contact me via email and I’m ( Read more... )

If I was conservative because of my upbringing, is that any worse that being more liberal because of my education? I don't think either one is any worse, but I know for me I've had to find a happy medium between the two since with our wonderful department bringing us to a more liberal point in our lives, I can't make myself stick with a good amount of the things I was taught growing up. Yet at the same time, I stlil agree with a lot of the stuff I was taught growing up, so I cant completely leave it either...

Will we ever be able to think for ourselves? I agree in saying unfortunately no... because there will always be something influencing our decisions and beliefs, and we'll be the influences to others. Its a big cycle it seems...

What if thinking for yourself is in the nature of phrasing the question? Is pondering a result of education or a questioning of it? Do we question because we are predisposed to do so, or because the more we learn, the less we know, and thus the more we question? Is free thinking even free if it costs us our beliefs?

Question after question, solitary moments imploding over and over throughout the course of time and history. In the end, its all a moral quagmire, which leads this person actually BACK to the Bible.

Solomon, Quoheleth, Bob and Tom, Captain Courageous - whoever the hell wrote the last few verses in what we know as Ecclesiastes puts it like this "The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments because this applies to every person." (Ecc 12:13)

Now, can someone please tell me what THAT means ;)

Because we are influenced by what we read, hear, see, and experience does not mean that we are slaves to these things. At first we are taught and accept our lessons without question, then, we may begin to doubt, but we have not the faculties to examine our situation in any great detail. Those who go beyond this point are of their own minds, testing what comes to them by, not only the teachings of their youths, but experience and a spiritual sense ( ... )
