Stinky: switching foods.

Hey everyone, I know I've seen food posts here before, but I just have one major issue with my Rita. Her gas is fowl enough to clear a room. When I brought her home, I quickly took her off the Eukenuba and switched her to Canidae. She did well for a while, but this girl is killing me! She had an extensive vet work-up with blood, stool, urine, ( Read more... )

Canidae recently changed their formula, adding a whole bunch of (in my opinion) unnecessary grains. My dog was on Canidae for quite a while, but the formula changes didn't sit well with me, so now she's on California natural. She, like your Rita, doesn't have any allergies or skin/coat issues, and her coat has actually improved since switching her to Cal Nat.

Other than that, though, I haven't got any suggestions.

Good to know. I hadn't heard this. I don't feed it anymore but I like to keep up on these things. I'll have to check it out.

I suggest Innova Evo. Norwood was awfully gassy and had foul breath on the Pukanuba in school, but Evo has really helped that. Plus his stool is smaller and less foul.

Yuck. Ricky when he was alive had the same thing on canidae. I switched to innova. I would suggest cal natural though it's easy to digest. Innova is good food too though. Canidae also caused ricky to want to eat everything in site for some reason.

Thanks, that's such a relief! I figure that if she smells this awful, she can't be feeling great, either. Rita also eats everything in sight as long as it's on the ground. Leaves, gum, and let's not forget the fun ornament that really *looked* like a ball. (she didn't ingest it, but she did think it was her new, most favorite chew toy) ever ( ... )

hmmm, where to start? I'm really sick so hopefully I can get my response straight.

I wouldn't think you'd need a supplement with CA natural. If you want one you could do a multi vitamin supplement, but may not need one. I can't remember the brand I was using for Ricky. It also had digestive enzymes in it. I'd think she's not old enough to worry about joint supplements. Give that another few years and then start.

Evo is more likely to give a firm stool than the regular innova which seems to produce softer poops. Some dogs don't do well on the potato in evo though.

I like the furminator. It seems to work well on Fargo. I use it mostly in spring and fall which are shedding times, but occasionally throughout the winter. It doesn't rip out hair that doesn't need to come out.
