I just retired my seven-year-old golden, Mill'E from heavy guide work last march for advanced degenerative joint disease of her kneecap and patella.
It is hard to know how advanced things are without an xray. You may want to have that done, just so you have a baseline.
Depending how advanced it is, and what methods you choose to help combat this issue, she could still work for some time.
You may want to talk to your vet just so you have an idea of where she is now. You also may want to minimize any jumping and climbing into high cars etc.
