Beyond frustrated

I'm writing cause I need help! I've had it with Wilda and want to retire her. Well part of me does and part of me doesn't. Apparently she hates where we live. She refuses to go to the bathroom anywhere near our building. I must walk her at least a few blocks away or she will not go. Sure, that's fine, It'll motivate me to do some more updating. I did get some suggestions from SE so I'm glad about that.

Have you tried food rewarding her with kibble at various points on your route home? It might help her to associate that going that way, rather than getting you lost, is a good thing.

I know I'm the reason she gets like this. I need to do some things differently like take a bus to a different part of town and walk her, make sure she does her obedience without goofing off and correct her for sniffing. I tended to be a little too lenient after the accident I had when I shattered my arm cause that put too much stress on Wilda. Seeing Eye will come out if we haven't made progress in the next 2 weeks.

SE asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to make it work. I can do it but I'm gonna have to reprogram the way I do things. If I'm still having trouble, I'll get help from the school. I do give her treats with the clicker but she has this new thing where she turns around and looks at me and refuses to move a step further if she doesn't get a treat. I think clicking her with treats made her a little more difficult but I'm sure I can figure out a way to fix it.

It sounds like you're really hopeful and that the school will work with you. I'm really glad on both counts as sometimes that's half the battle ( ... )
