Second Song ♫ Video

Mar 28, 2010 14:07

[ The video feed shifts on, and here's Klavier. He seems to be thinking of some sort of song in his head, because it seems like he's also looking for the best way to phrase what he wants to say. ] I've been to a lot of out of the way places to study foreign legal systems; tiny countries. Perhaps no larger than where we are now, even... and yet they ( Read more... )

[Hey Klavier, remember Cheria? She's one of the people who just listened to your entry and responds with a curt nod.]

I agree. So far, we haven't had much trouble, but if kind people can be drawn here, the unkind might appear as well. Now that we're here, we should do whatever we can to keep this place safe. Until we find a way out, Vatheon is our home.

I'm not a knight or anything of the sort, but if you ever have need of healing magic, please feel free to ask me.

[ Well! That earns you a smile. ]

That's exactly my point. Though speaking with one of the residents here, she seemed far too positive, but I'm a realist.

[ He chuckles absently. Magic? He doesn't really believe it, but he won't correct her. ] I'm not a knight, either--nor am I a judge. It's my job to make sure threats to society are locked up tight; that's what being a prosecutor means to me, aside from revealing the truth.

[That's alright. One day, he may see the magic with his own eyes and then he'll have to believe it.] That's a very admirable goal. Is there a dungeon to hold those threats, though? I have yet to encounter one here in the city.

Iron bars may hold my soul, but not our love...

[ Why yes, those are lyrics he's singing. ] Ah, the Jailhouse Blues. We'd hardly have the Blues to sing if we lack a jail to compose the music in! How right you are.

I agree that we do need to be responsible for our own actions. I think a legal system is necessary, if only to remind us that there are rules which should be adhered to. I don't like to think that anyone here might have intentions of doing things which would require punishment... But they always say that it's better safe than sorry, right?

I, for one, think it's an excellent suggestion.

Ja, that's exactly what I'm thinking. After talking with the locals here, I don't think just following the golden rule is a safe enough assumption.

... I'm a prosecutor. Perhaps I'm just cynical due to what I've seen, but if--and I'm only proposing an if--a murder took place, we need to be able to make sure there are repercussions for this.

Oh, I see! In that case, I understand why it was on your mind. Like I said, I don't want to think that it is something we'll have to worry about, but rules are the basis of any sort of organization. Especially since we all seem to come from different backgrounds, it's a good idea to get together and make sure everyone's on the same page.

And where would you lock the guilty up? How far beyond thinking that we should develop a [...] legal system have you gotten?

Some would say that such a thing would invite crime. There are those who act merely to provoke the law. And would your system extend to those who have lived here for their lives? What if they were the murderer - what need would their be for one to be, as you put it, pulled in?

[ That earns you a guitar chord followed by an abrupt pause, Eyes. ]

... You assume I haven't considered this.

All good projects start as an idea, ja?

Secondly, I wanted to study Vatheon's legal system. I wanted to know if there was one before I just jumped in headfirst. They have no problem with crime amongst their own citizens, apparently... which is logical, when you consider the situation everyone is in.

[ What odd questions this person asks. He'll be keeping his eye (or in this case an ear) on you; puns unintended, because anyone inquiring usually has a good--or bad--reason. ]

... And I thought I was cynical. Why, compared to you, my outlook is downright cheery. Tell me, why isn't there a need? Can you prove either? If you want to play music, then bring an instrument. If you want to play a duet in law... you bring evidence.

I agree completely. If we're all stuck here in this city, then we need a legal system in place, to keep everyone safe.

I'm a private detective, myself. I'll help out in any way I can.

Ah, a detective. I was hoping I'd get a chance to speak to a couple; we even have an agent from Interpol here, but it's a little difficult to organize anything if people don't know about what I'm hoping we can do in the first place, isn't it?

Mm, I know that there are quite a few in law enforcement here. And that's certainly true; in order to organize anything, first someone has to do something about it.

Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how many people would be involved with this?

I have a select few I trust in mind, but I'd like myself and a few others--a small group, maybe five of us at most--to speak with the locals here who're... more actively engaged in the chain of command, let's say.

[ A pause. ] Hopefully they'll understand the need for SOMETHING.

[Pop! Here is a video feed of Phoenix giving a small smile. This post makes him slightly sad because it reminds him of Miles, he would've done this right off the bat. With similar words, even.]

Heh... you know I'm already for it.

[ Which was odd, because Klavier knew that, too. Granted, he only knew Edgeworth in passing, but he knew him well enough to judge he'd feel the same way. The same could be said (or, rather, he hoped could be said) for Franziska. ]

Ah, Herr Wright. I knew you'd approve, but contacting everyone else at once, well... this is the best way to do that. I should hope we won't have a need to ever arrest anyone, however, and that this will be a deterrent from harming other individuals while we're here.

[ He was tired of doing nothing. ] I'd rather improvise a performance than not have one at all because I lack a microphone, if you catch my drift.

[You would think so, right? Yet here it was Klavier starting all this.]

I hope not too, but with the types of people pulled in... Did you know there is a man here who has a gun for an arm? [He frowns and places his chin on a hand.] I heard that from Peter White. Apparently he turned into a homicidal maniac the other day because of the coral.

[He gives a small raise of the corner of his lips at the metaphor.] I think I understand, Mr. Gavin.

[ He just shakes his head absently. ] That is precisely my point. Oh, sure, the maniacs stand out right away, but what of the murderers who are using this to cover their true crimes? What then? It's important we have SOME system in place, don't you think?

But really: a gun? ... In his arm? [ Klavier laughs outright at that, not at all sparing Phoenix the least amount of dignity. Sorry, bro. ] Are you sure you haven't read one too many Westerns~? But ja, I'm well aware of him... it's he and a few others that are the very reason I want to start things on their way to a completed album versus a small one-hit-wonder of a single.
