Nook Color

Well I am pretty satisfied with my Nook Color.

Books, of course load and read very well, I find the swipe much better than the clicky buttons of the Classic Nook.  While my novels don't have that nifty page curl that  I had on my iTouch (and I assume the iPad as well?) but it slides smoothly enough and is much more the feel of a real book than the ( Read more... )

I am jealous. Someone at work was raving about their color Nook. It has me thinking hard about having one. I wonder if my Marvel comic reader work work on that.

Is the Nook a proprietary OS or is it an Android?

It's a limited version of Android 2.2 (Froyo). If you're familiar with Android, you'll recognize some of the same features, but B&N has customized the software for their own needs. The Nook is relatively simple to root, though, if you'd rather have the full Android experience. I think B&N's stock OS is pretty slick, but I have played around with Android 3.0 on it out of curiosity.

Here's the thing, I'm told you can't side load apps unless you root (jailbreak) it. If you do you void the warranty. I personally am not going to consider rooting mine until after the manufacture and the 2 yr extended accident warranties are up, if it were a $100 item, maybe, but $249 I just know something horrendous will happen to it and then I'm stuck ( ... )
