I've had the same experience with Myspace, which is probably why I still don't have a Myspace account. Even the few people I did like in high school have NEVER LEFT their social strata. Kinda pathetic, really.
Then I remember I have my own life and a lot more freedom comes with that.
This may weird you out but.... I've been friends with two of my friends since Kindergarten (er.... that's since 19-freekin-80. holy crap.) and Steph (who I write about often) since 12th grade (1993-94). None of us were in the "cool" crowd, though. I'm not sure any of us has changed much, either.
It seems like a lot of people at my high school remained friends with each other too. The reunion happened because of everyone being on Friendster or some shit? I never heard about it 'til it was too late for me to go (and I didn't really wanna go) but it sounded like they were all best buddies still 10 years later. idc idc idc but still. I'm with you. I also had like 1 best friend and a periphery of people we sometimes hung with. Oh well. Yeah. High school.
I went to two high schools- and they were drasticly different from each other. One of them, the private school- the one I left public school for- I'm friends with just about everyone I was friends with back then. I actually just finally found a friend of mine two days ago that I've been looking for everywhere. She was in India. I didn't look there. Most of my other friends from that school are scattered around the world. None of us lives where we came from. And none of us are the same as we were.
However- at the public high school I went to... you can go on Myspace, Friendster, Facebook- all of those sites- and plainly see that the cheerleaders STILL hang out with the jocks. They are all intermarried and stuff. All the friends I had back then all still live in the same town, virtually in the same houses. Nothing has changed much there at all.
I know *I* have changed because I never wanted to be stuck. But some people like being stuck. Which is sad. And a bit creepy in a time-loopy kinda way.
