I would have pictures, however my digital camera came to an early demise, when it leaped off the table and came in contact with the cement floor.  This happened at Ages of War.  I am very disappointed, since I will not be able to replace my camera until later on this month.

At Ages, I was inspired by a Roman gown that I borrowed from Aletheia.  I ( Read more... )

I would recommend finding a remnant of wool and use that for a cloak. I don't know if Rochester has a Mill End but they frequently have wool remnants. A simple 1-2 yard x 45-60" wide piece will serve you very well. It will be more expensive than polar fleece, but it will be warm and you won't need to replace it with something more period. All you would need to do is wrap the square or rectangle of fabric around your shoulders and pin it in place.

I have never found cloaks to be that practical and it is usually one of the first items that people want to make. Save yourself the expense and hassle.

Rochester does have a Mills End store. And that will be a great alternative to the polar fleece, if Savers ( used clothing and goods store in Rochester) does not have a blanket (thinking cost here). I used Aletheia's cloak at the last camping event, and that is where it came in handy. Plus if we get the rain that is being predictied, it will be nice to wrap up in..... Thank you for the suggestion

Just a quick fact: 100% Wool can absorb 80% of it's weight in water before it is wet through so it is an ideal fabric for keeping dry.

Very true. Wool is the ideal fabric. But I have to be budget minded, since I am trying to save as meany pennies as I can for WW, and the camping season. That is the only reason I will try Savers first. It is not very often that they have the polar fleece blankets, so I am not counting on it.
