Is there an Android in my future?

I’m not exactly a heavy phone user, but I’ve always loved gadgets, especially ones that will allow me to touch the Internet from where ever I happen to be. Still the obscene contractually prices have always turned me off. Even with just a regular “dumb phone” (god I hate that term) I’ve avoided contracts as I don’t use even close to enough minutes ( Read more... )

$25 a month for unlimited texts, e-mail, web, and data, and 300 voice minutes? What am I missing?

The issue that some people have is in the form of customer service. Most of the prepaid services tend go have abysmal customer service. Even when you do get someone who genuinely wants to help their optionsntend to be limited by the fact many of these companies piggyback off the big providers and are essentially just middlemen.

You'll also never be able to get the latest and greatest as even the high end phones they offer are often at least a year out of date.

Those are the biggest issues people have. Prepaid plans aren't good for people who do a lot of voice communication, but if you don't do much voice I've found they are pretty damn good and affordable. Plus if after a month you think they suck you just port your number on over to someone else without a ridiculous early termination fee.

I was in the same boat before my HTC desire. I rarely use the phone but wanted the web options without paying an arm and a leg. in the end, I splurged and got a contact because of all the commuting I do. It's been worth every single solitary penny. I heart Android and use my phone far more than my laptop now. My fella has researched your phone in the past too and agreed you probably found a great option if what everyone is saying is true. I vote go for it!

If you go this route, I'll be curious to see if you can tether to whatever device is handy. I'd be willing to cut a big chunk of our phone budget out and go this route if I can tether while out and about, and just stick a MiFi or similar on the wall at home for access.

From all I've read while tethering is not supported by Virgin Mobile, there's an app you can get from the Android store (free app) that will allow the mobile hot spot feature.
