HERE HERE! You know how I love travel, so I'm going to potentially get my sex organs radiated at some point in the near future. But those short-plane trips? Screw 'em. This crap is making me want to learn to drive.

I can sympathize with the airlines' desire to unbundle things not everyone needs. Just as I deflect the complaints that TiVo DVRs don't include Wi-Fi by saying "Well, most people's cable routers are near their cable boxes, so they need an Ethernet port, so I don't want to pay for a Wi-Fi feature I don't need," I think people should pay for the services they need, and let others pay for the services they want.

Where I think the airlines are doing it wrong is treating people differently based on whether they want to put their bag in the luggage hold or the overhead compartment, and I wrote about this almost three years ago. I'm OK with paying a fee to check my luggage as long as the asshat carrying a huge duffel bag on board is paying a similar fee. I'm not OK paying a fee to check my luggage and then being told there's no room overhead for my laptop because of the freeloaders ( ... )
