So glad to hear surgery went well. Good that things went so smoothly and you're feeling better.
I just got diagnosed with a teeny-tiny bit of the beginnings of cataracts. It goes me hope if I need surgery one of these years, my vision will be restored. Right now I only need a pair of very low level (1.25) Foster Grants to read small print on bottle and menus will small print in dark restaurants.
Basically, I think people opt for the surgery when they run out of patience with the inconvenience of cataracts. By the time I needed the 5X readers that can only be gotten by mail-order from one of those Old-People-Supply catalogs, for close work, and half-readers to make out the gauges on the dashboard when driving, I knew I was ready. I still need glasses for small print and low light, but only the kind available from nearly any store. If I'd been a good candidate for "mono-vision" (one eye that sees near and one that sees distance) I could have done without even those.
As it is, I'd rather see distance well, for driving; I'm used to readers for close work, anyway.
