But getting back to Mary Higgins Clark, when I looked up a list of her novels, I couldn't remember having read any of her other books, although I've seen her name a lot. I guess she's one of those writers who are famous for being famous. She's prolific, at least.
You're right: we all have things that will put us off a book, and sometimes just a turn of phrase, or a botched attempt at foreshadowing is enough to ruin it for us. That's one of the things that make writing such a tough job: too many pitfalls. But I guess it's like acting: it will break your heart, so don't attempt to live that life unless something inside compels you.

Yes... Sue Grafton... that be she! Old age... can't remember a thing. *Sigh* I must try some of hers at some stage.
I think I may have mixed her up with MHC because they're both prolific. I see loads of books by both in charity shops here.
Tough job indeed. I couldn't write on a professional level. The deadlines would kill me and I think I would be very prone having my heart broken over critcism.
