Today is one of those days…

So many homosexuals and lesbians are celebrating the right to marry in New York State, and I’m happy for them, but I’m feeling alone today. Not self piteously alone, but alone nonetheless. Strength or weakness of character has nothing to do with it; nor does reason. This is addiction we're talking about here. It is a biomedical issue, full stop. It is not a moral issue, not a willpower issue, not an issue of character. You're doing fine. Every day a leetle better -- some days a leetle more better than others.

Maybe this isn't really the best time for you to stop your happy pills. You have a lot of uncertainty going on with the medical situation and the impending move; and you lost the structure of your full time job - which in spite of its frustrations was a big piece of your daily life. Hopefully, you'll get a favorable diagnosis soon so that will settle one thing. Did you actually set a moving day?

Things are gonna be busy, but I'm hoping work or something else brings me down to the city so there's occasion to meet up for a drink before you go.

Y'know, it's probably good that you were away when I was down there on Tuesday. The heat was so insane, neither of us would have been fresh as a daisy. And I ended up having to rush back to the 'burbs because I had a shit-show waiting for me at the office.
