Wow its late but I will stay up longer because there are just some things you said that pushed my buttons. Please note that I am not a cocky person at all, but I will give you what you asked for.

"Obviously Min can't hear or something."
What do you hear when you listen to music? Most likely the vocals. Maybe the guitar. Maybe the drum fill now and then. Let me tell you in all honesty what I hear. I also hear the things you do. I also hear much more you guys didn't know existed: the chord progressions, for example (1-4-5)(1-5-6-4), the bass line, the chord qualities, phrases repeated at certain times, harmonies between all the instruments, time signature, maybe the authentic cadence at the end of a section, suspensions and their resolutions, melodies and their developments, countermelodies, key changes, parallel movements, bass/soprano counterpoint, I can name many more ( ... )

Now I'm going to totally have to agree with Min on this one. People need to be able to play their instruments and write a song that is musical before presenting it to the public. The performance that I saw on the MTV movie awards was completely and totally lacking in musicality. I, like Min, will not judge music on how good their technical skills are, or if there are incredible guitar solos abound, and in fact denounce many people for playing technically (Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony McAlpine, Etc...) What matters is that the artist will play and perform musically. Noisy loud guitars playing the same sloppy chord incessantly is not musical, indeed not even music at all. The Yeah Yeahs ( and the thousands of other bands with the same sound, look, and concept) need to take some time off before they again record, and learn to play in tune, play chords with thirds, or (gasp) sevenths, get better time and learn about harmonies and harmonic progression. I hear everything that Min hears in music, and more, and I can attest to the ( ... )
