book praise

Just stole a morning to enjoy my reading! Yay! It's been a while since a book has touched me and found that little girl in me who wanted horses and heroism to happen, to be the hero that rides the horse. I recomend to you:
"The Blue Sword" by Robin McKinley

wow. Not a long or tiring read, but wow.

This has been one of my very favorite books for YEARS. I *lovelovelove* it and still re-read it once or twice a year. Hmm, it may just be time to dig it out again...

The only other one I know of is The Hero and the Crown - it's about Harry's ancestor Aerin. Also good, but I like The Blue Sword better.

Oh fabulous, charming books! The Hero and the Crown is the prequel to The Blue Sword, though written afterward.

I thought there was a third book, but guess not. It does look like Water: Tales of Elemental Spirits might be set in the same world, or at least one of the short stories might be. (The author's description mentions Damar, http://www.robinmckinley.com/books/)

Hie thee to Powells straightaway!

Also, she has another, sort of series, of rewritten fairy tales, like Beauty and the Beast, (I think she did 2 takes on that tale) and Sleeping Beauty. They were good, too.

I love that book. I first read it when I was 12 or so, and yeah, wow. :-)
