This was a pretty decent weekend.
Yesterday the western-suburbs SCA group held a small event featuring a "Court of Love" and feast, and since it was reasonably easy to get to via SEPTA, we decided to attend. It was the first event we've been to since last February, so it was nice to get out and see people. It was the sort of nice small event we enjoy the most. The Court of Love was more entertaining than I anticipated; the number of cases brought before the panel of ladies to be judged was kept to a small number and the grievances were amusing -- though the ladies were more lenient in at least one case than I would have been. If my husband shaved his face bare unexpectedly while I was out of town, he'd pay, I tell you! (The ladies decreed that next time her husband comes back from a journey, she should meet him with a full beard to give him a taste of his own medicine.)
Once Love Court was adjourned I got called up in regular court, first to witness the creation of another Companion of the Order of the Harlequin, and then I got called up by myself and was inducted into the Order of the Salamander, the Barony's distinguished service order, for my years of ministering the Baronial website, my leadership of the Bailiwick of Ivyeinrust, and my (not terribly current) service as a calligrapher and illuminator. The scroll they gave me blew me away. It's gorgeous, done by
Master Arden, who has more talent for more pursuits than any one man should be allowed to have. There is a miniature of me sitting at a writing desk with a quill in one hand and a pen in the other, and atop the desk next to some paint jars there's a crystal ball -- I think you use it with the little furry mouse that's sitting on the desk next to me. (There's also a spinning wheel to help make those webs, next to a bunch of ivy growing on the wall.) I'm wearing the outfit that I wore at my wedding, and behind me there's a portrait of my dear husband Lord Cal. It's getting framed ASAP!
After the event Baroness Scheherazade gave us a ride back into town and we met up with her and her husband at the diner near our house, and did some catching up, which was great since we hadn't seen them since their wedding which was quite some time ago.
This evening our friends Ben and Mike invited us over for dinner along with a couple of lesbian friends of Mike's, and we had a very nice meal at their place. Ben's a great cook and despite warning us that we were being guinea pigs for some new recipes, the food was excellent and we had a great time. There was a cream of cauliflower and leek soup which was fantastic, and pork loin with roasted potatoes and onions, and for dessert a cran-apple crumble with Ben's homemade vanilla ice cream. SO GOOD. Needless to say this weekend was not the most successful weekend on Weight Watchers but c'est la vie, sometimes.
I guess it's back to work tomorrow. At least it'll be easier on my food log.
