okay suggest living apart so that you can meet new people (i.e. roommates), yet still have that homegrown bond. if all goes well, you can say, your respective new roommates will expand the base group of your friends. i think if you live with someone from home your first year, it could easily put a massive strain on your friendship. you can tell her that will work both ways, because there's a good chance she'll find living with you to be hell.

... i'm not implying that you are hard to live with or an undesirable roommate or anything, but i've seen it happen quite a lot, and i'm glad i didnt live with the one friend from high school i went to college with. we now live together off-campus and it worked out well, because we met different people and didnt cling to each other.

You aren't being whiny.

Try just saying no. Either way there will be drama, but this way it'll be less so.

From experience. (I've known her since 7th grade)

So tell her you don't want to live with her. If she takes it personally, that's her problem, not yours. Don't make yourself miserable just to avoid a bit of drama.

you guys of all people would know how ridiculous this is. i want to be friends with her, i just dont want to LIVE with her. a rational person would understand that...

She's far from rational, as I'm sure you are well aware.
You will end up enemies if you live together, so get the drama over with now. Maybe she'll still be friends with you, but it's more or less guaranteed that if you live together you won't be by the end of it.
