Your mom is definetely wrong on that one. Not that I know or anything. but you'd think that the best way to be able to go out with someone and get to know them is to hang out as friends first. So in my opinion: no, you did not screw yourself over by making the first move. If anything, it was very brave.

dude! I think it all depends on how he reacted and how you act from now on. I know you. you are NOT clingy or desperate. That's the turn off. I think guys like to know that someone likes them, so by suggesting to go see this movie as friends, you actually gave him an opportunity. The ball is in his court. If he asks you out again... or makes a move... then you know how he feels. If not, then just assume he's just into being friends. Screw that macho crap.
