Day Seven: Four turn offs.
Hm... this is harder than day 3.
I generally look for traits I like in people rather than things I don't like...
And I will admit, it is stupidly naïve.
Usually, someone will have something decent about them, and it will usually be enough for me to overlook the negatives. However, there are things which set off alarm bells in my head the moment they appear.
1. The intention to hurt
Bullying, physical abuse, cruelty….
To revel in the pain of someone else and then to push it to the point where you destroy them… there isn’t anything human in it.
There is a saying “Love one another, or perish” and I believe that sums up humankind rather well.
2. Being demanding
I don’t expect things from people when I wouldn’t do it for them. So I dislike people who don’t return favours, or ask me to do things when if roles were reversed, they wouldn’t do the same for me. I’m not doing things for others to gain favours… but the fact that they are willing to do something in turn shows that they have some appreciation for what I’ve done. It’s appreciation and consideration rolled into one.
3. Being downright disrespectful and ungrateful
This applies mostly to the kids and teenagers I see nowadays. The ones who take for granted what their parents sacrifice for them and furthermore throw it back in their faces.
The ones who think the universe revolves around them and have no care for how much they’re making people who love them worry, or even worse, aggravating the people around them - just because.
But this can be expanded even further to simple things like not saying thank you after someone has gone out of their way to help you. I suppose this is kind of similar to #2. Im just big on appreciation.
4. Inconsideration
Again, this is similar to my first two. Not thinking about the people around before you go and do or say something. In addition to this, there is also the concept of 'no action', where you know someone needs assistance and won't go to the effort of helping them out. eg. walking through a door and not holding it open for the person carrying the huge box of stuffies behind you.
I think the world needs more people who are considerate and grateful.
Essentially, I just dislike selfish people.
