I'm working on talldarkhandson who was two in the Siege of Dollet (four years younger than Maria) but his dad was in the Dollet Army at the time and then transferred to reserves shortly afterwards. (He would have retired entirely but I'm assuming the Dollet Army has similar rules to most real world military systems where you have to serve X years before you can quit, so his transferring to Reserves was a technicality and he actually didn't end up serving again.) Lucas's dad thought he owed his life to SeeD thanks to them bailing them out of the Siege and poked his own kids to join SeeD. Maybe Maria knows Luc through his dad? The dad would have been preaching his thanks to SeeD; she could have heard him in some public place or Lucas talking about it in school.

That said, Lucas's timeline is going to be in real time (so he'll now be twenty-two) so he could be WTFing Maria suddenly being younger or possibly even be like, oh my god, this is where you disappeared to when I was twelve

We could just easily write in a few instances of time distortion into the histories to cover discrepancies. Makes sense, solves problems!

And that makes sense. Especially with Maria's drive being to get into SeeD to begin with, and training under someone with military ties!

It would've been easy enough for them to meet.

And will be confusing. "Oh, um... you got... old, and tall, and cute."

I propose a derpy childhood nickname for Maria to use on Lucas that no one but his family really uses any more: Lulu.

I have...a name and user icons and that's about it at the moment. Other than the vague concept that he's more the kid from the wrong side of the proverbial tracks.
