Flip the bail [this will release yhe line tension]
Hold the line with your index finger
Release the line at the end of your cast
When you start to reel the bail will flip iyself back over

Thanks. I figured it out..sort of...before seeing your response. No joy on the fishing front. My nephew got a pole for his birthday and was begging to go fishing in the ocean. Shockingly, with his light weight equipment and random lures, we didn't catch anything. Uncle Bob did break the line during a cast, however. lol. We may do one of those cattle car boat trips, so there is still hope.
