This may be a stupid question.. but... wasn't Gunsmoke a Western television series from back int he 60's or so? What's it have to do with Trigun...

Or am I being stupid - I don't know Trigun very well, you see....

Yup, Gunsmoke was an old-time Western show. It's also the name of the shithole planet that Trigun takes place on. I don't believe that this name was ever mentioned in the anime, but it was in the manga, and even anime fans usually call it by this name now.

Nope, not stupid at all. It wasn't until I started reading translations of the manga that *I* even knew, and I'm a complete Trigun-phile.

Gunsmoke was indeed a Western TV series. badda-biiiiiiiiing.

Gunsmoke is also the name of the planet Trigun is set on...as I now realise Silver-arm just mentioned. D-OHeth.

Anyway, Gun (Trigun haw, haw) and Smoke (as everyone in Bebop likes to have a ciggy) equals Gunsmoke. Because everything else was longer than 12 letters...u_U;;

That and both of the anime are western-ish themed.
