So true. The crown war is the worse. And this year is the topper. I have given up mostly. I am thinking of giving up Markland for a couple of years. Maybe find something else to do. Help John and Von Draken and go to Pennsic but that's all. I have a lot of other interest in life than the current drama.
It's good work you're doing for the organization. A static website like Markland.org is a step behind the dynamic social networking sites, where users can add content instead of just mods.
However, you've got to have arguments and discussions on the forum - by definition, that's what a forum is! It's better that issues are discussed in the offtime, so we aren't wasting event time with them. Leave the ugly work to the reeves and Witan on Markland.org, and keep doing what you're doing on FB. Both work well.
Yeah, but everyone I talk to is just plain fed up with the bickering amongst the half dozen or so people who post on a regular basis (and you know who I'm talking about). Besides them, there are probably only a handful of people who bother to read, let alone post on Markland forums. Heck we can't even get people to post their own events half the time, or they are so incomplete that they most likely won't draw anyone to them. We are SO disorganized anymore it's become a chronic problem, and yes, the world is beginning to take notice. Most SCA people I know(including our newest member) say they can't believe we even hold events with the lack of info and discussion we have on the site
( ... )
You are definitely right that some groups are focusing more on SCA events these days. One group has already left Markland, and another announced a few years ago about their intention to focus on the SCA more. And then you have the college groups who can't afford to come out to events.
FB Updates are a good ideaeea_goddessAugust 24 2009, 13:03:40 UTC
Thanks to you, I have all the next upcoming wars updated on my Calendar and entered into my phone. Updates are good, and most people check FB more than they check the boards.
