Snow is a hazard down where I live - the middle of South Carolina.

A friend of ours tried to explain it to someone from one of the states where people are accustomed to dealing with the white stuff.   It happens so infrequently in our area that it is not economically feasible to maintain the infrastructure to deal with snow.  It's only about every ( Read more... )

An update on what happened. Most everything was closed down on Monday - the day I first posted about the storm. Even DE got the day off. Apparently the 'powers that be' decided the conditions were not safe for travel. Many locations were also closed Tuesday. We did venture forth Tuesday afternoon to see how the roads were - icy, clear, etc. Took the route the BH takes to work, and an alternate route. Decided that she could drive her vehicle and I didn't need to drive her in mine. By Wednesday most businesses were open except schools. Snow removal apparently was not finished in the parking lots. Also some downtown Columbia businesses were closed because the downtown streets were barely drivable. Today, Friday - very though it's actually early Saturday morning as I write - roads were all clear and everything was back to normal business-wise. We still have snow in the shady areas and under trees and where direct sun doesn't reach ( ... )
