Reading by committee

Sep 03, 2007 12:02

Okay! Time to figure out what I'm reading next. Here's the list I've narrowed it down to.

  1. Cook - The Tyranny of the Night
  2. Pressfield - The Gates of Fire
  3. Mieville - Perdido Street Station
  4. Pullman - The Golden Compass
  5. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  6. Huxley - Brave New World
I have other books to read too, but I'd like to read ( Read more... )

Start with A Brave New World.

I didn't like Perdido Street Station at all and didn't finish it. I found the whole thing way overwrought. So (try to) read that next so you can tell us what you think of it!

While Brave New World is a classic and an important part of our cultural lexicon, Gates of Fire kicks serious ass.

If you are in a comtemplative frame of mind the former, if you are in a butt kicking mood the latter.

agreed. it really depends on your mood. Gates of Fire kicks ass, but maybe you're in the mood for something more introspective (Pullman; Huxley) or something light (HP) or maybe steampunk (PSS). I haven't read Cook, so I can't comment on that one.

Pullman. It's like HP for grownups.
