“Please! I beg of you! Please take him in! They’ll take him if he stays with us! Please. Unnie please!”
Jinyoo and her husband stared astonished at the woman standing at their door step, a bundle in her arms, before the Jinyoo ushered her into the living room.
“Why are you here?” Jinyoo asked the teary-eyed woman. The woman sniffed before pulling the hood of her jacket back from her head.
“Unnie, please do me the favor.”
Jinyoo and her husband both gasped. “What- you’re ears?”
“They’re real. Unnie, please listen to me.” The woman unwrapped the bundle in her arms, it was a baby, like Jinyoo had suspected, but the baby had two tiny rabbit ears on their head, like their mother.
“What’s going on?” she asked confused, and just a little upset.
“Unnie, I’m not completely human. Neither is he. I’d love to keep him, raise him, watch him grow.” The woman stroked the baby’s cheek fondly, “But… they found about us a while ago. He’ll be in danger if he stays with me! They know about me, but they don’t know about him! He still has a chance to survive! Unnie, I’m giving him to you! Please, please take him!”
Jinyoo was more than confused about the chopped explanation, but the look on her dongseng’s face told her what she needed to do. She took the baby from his mother’s arms and cradled him in her’s. Her husband looked at her appalled.
“Jinyoo?!”
“Sungho, please.” Sungho frowned at his wife before sighing. He was as equally confused about the situation when he asked the woman, “What’s his name?”
The woman smiled, thankful, and told them, “His name is Sungmin.”
