Kangin woke with a start when the thunder clapped loudly outside. He looked around the room groggily. Noticing that it was vaguely three in the morning, he settled down and back into bed.
Another clap of thunder erupted outside the house, but Kangin easily ignored it. Just as he was drifting off to sleep, a different noise penetrated his hearing.
A screaming child.
The man groaned and turned over in the bed. “Leeteuk,” He whined sleepily, nudging the sleeping figure in bed beside him. “Teukie, Sungmin is scared again.”
Leeteuk mumbled sleepily, whacking Kangin’s hand away tiredly. “Then… go see what it is…”
“Why me? She likes her Umma better.” Kangin complained, a tad grudgingly.
“Well too bad.” Leeteuk replied, turning over to face his husband in bed. “I got up last time. It’s your turn.” He finished, a bit teasingly.
Kangin sighed knowing that he wouldn’t win the argument anytime soon, and Sungmin wouldn’t stop crying until someone was there with her.
The man got out of bed, slipping on the slippers that were places neatly by the foot of the bed and quietly crept out of the room, so as not to wake his sleeping spouse.
Sungmin's frantic screaming got louder as Kangin made his way passed Heechul’s room (God knows how his elder daughter could sleep through such racket.) and down the hallway to his younger daughter’s bedroom.
Opening the door to the room, Kangin prepared himself for a long night of crying and clinging. He stepped into Sungmin's pretty pink bedroom -Shrouded in shadows at the current time due to night.
He instantly noticed the small ball under the pale pink covers in his daughter’s bed, shaking lightly. Of course, it was also the source of the screaming.
“Sungmin-ah?” Kangin called, gently pulling the covers off of Sungmin's small body.
Sungmin looked you at Kangin with big eyes, full of fear and rimmed with tears. “A-A-Appa!!” Sungmin cried, launching himself at Kangin in full force.
Kangin grunts at contact but picks the little girl up nonetheless. Kangin settled into Sungmin's plush pink bed and cradles the small child in his arms awkwardly. Sungmin buries her head into Kangin’s night shirt and cries softly.
Kangin rubs the back of Sungmin's head softly, letting the child cry and holding on to her whenever she jumps at the sound of thunder booming outside. He whispers soothing words to her and promises her new toys in the morning if she’d just go to bed- because he knows she’ll forget the promises when she wakes then next morning.
After sometime, Sungmin eases her grip on her Appa’s shirt and sniffs slightly, signaling that she’s ready to sleep again.
Kangin tucks her in again, pulling the pink covers up to her chin and kissing her on the forehead. “Good night, Princess.” He tells her before turning for the door and his own bed.
The thunder struck again and Kangin heard Sungmin flinch in bed. He turns back around to see the little girl looking at him with big eyes.
Kangin sighs going back to the bed and pulling Sungmin out of it.
Sungmin looks at him with curios eyes.
“You want to sleep with Umma tonight, right?” He asks with a tired smile.
Sungmin smiles and nods before placing her head on Kangin’s shoulder and letting her Appa carry her off to her parent’s bedroom.
