France to head new Lebanon force?

So, who's running the betting pool on how long till the UN force surrenders?

Actually, France is the best choice of all. Their UN Peacekeeping force is GOOD (the EU's military forces are tied up with NATO, and are the best Peacekeepers in the world), they have no real concern in the area, and best of all, they supposedly hate the US as much as we supposedly hate them. That makes them a neutral force in the middle east, and better suited to peacekeeping than we ever will be.

I really wish people would stop badmouthing France. Seriously. :(

it's FRANCE!!!

These are the people who's military refused to be of ANY assistance during the Normandy landings in WWII, and then rolled into Paris like they'd done something...

deGaul alone is reason enough to hate the french...

And the ONLY military unit that France fields that's any good is their Foreign Legion, which is - by definition - made up of non-french...

And the UN's peacekeeping forces are - as a rule - a joke... Mercenary units of less than a thousand have done the job of distributing supplies and keeping rebels in line better than a UN force of over 5,000. I'll have to dig up the exact numbers...

France isn't the best choice... They're just the only members of the Securty Council who has a military that isn't doing much of anything...
