Hear that? That's the sound of my Sociology midterm being OWNED. Damn I rock.

Also, I did a kick-ass essay this morning about The Picture of Dorian Gray, and now I have to do another short paper for that class. Then I have to mail my letters, finish my application tonight (or possibly finish it up tomorrow), write an essay for another class for ( Read more... )

I don't remember if the theory had a name to it or anything like that, I just remember flipping through this literary magazine once (I felt like a snobby little fuckhead for doing that, by the way) and read about it. To oversimplify and condense it, it said that the female character is there to take away from the homoeroticism in the relationship between two men. One of the examplies she cites is that the character of Maid Marion was added to the Robin Hood myth much later because it was always just assumed that Robin and all the Merry Men were butt fucking in the woods together, which is obviously a big no-no.

I'm not sure if this is true in *all* cases, because if so it kind of invalidates any female secondary character in literature, but whenever I think about stories that involve two prominent men, it does always kind of make sense.
