new WC?

I live in a 2BR apartment with one housemate, and I am tired of sharing a bathroom. The design is particularly bad because the toilet, sink and shower are all in the same space, ensuring that unless the housemates are willing to share that level of intimacy, it is impossible for one person to do X while the other does Y. Interesting idea, but:
* I would need a ventilation pipe.
* their cheapest model is $1800, whereas the toilet I linked to above can be had for < $100.

What would be easier is to put in a sink and urinal in another room.
Have a separate grooming room for brushing teeth and combing hair, etc. You could do the plumbing yourself with PVC pipes.

Toilet drains are big and difficult to install in comparison to a sink or urinal drain. If your roommates are male, most of the time they don't need the toilet and a urinal will work fine.

I doubt I can do the plumbing myself... the pipes would have to go through the wall & floor, whether it's for a urinal or toilet.

A toilet needs a lower sewer usually on the floor but a urinal's drain can be higher up than the floor and go through a wall.

You might find someone who'll do it for cheap that does know how to do it.

Also, you're talking about a rental apartment, right? I can't imagine there are any landlords who are okay with their residents taking on totally untrained DIY plumbing and room remodeling. There are pretty much infinite things that could go wrong. "Just" breaking down the closet wall sounds like something that would cause most landlords conniptions. (For good reasons! You don't know what's structurally necessary, and are unlikely to do a professional-looking job.)

Hm, when I think "convenient while still being pleasantly archaic", I think washbowl, not chamber pot.

Unfortunately, even a washbowl requires plumbing... or at least a tank underneath.

No, I mean old-school: fill it, use it, pour it out.
