the problem here is not that Bush used wire taps, it is that he went and got them without a warrent and bypassed the system, making his own rules for what he can do and when.

There is a system set up to get these wire taps, which is how any president has, and should, go about getting them, Bush bypassed it because he decided that he is the president and can do what he wants.

Kerry was responding to the administration's counter-arguments that those who have a problem with what Bush did don't care about national security. The democrats are sick of looking week on terror and defense. Kerry, as president, could get wiretaps "wherever and whenever" he wants as long as there is cause and he goes through the proper steps to get the nessisary warrent.

i'm not saying you're wrong, because you're not, but remember that you and I are way further left than most of the country. Kerry can not just run out and do those things because it alienates him from centerists. it's politics. do what would get you the most votes. don't be upset with the man for playing the game. Kerry is not a reformer. He is a career politician. He's not the one who has the sway to stand up and say "hang on a minute..!" Keep on keeping on, my liberal chum. The left keeps society progressing, the right keeps the left from doing too much at once.
