When we lost Owen, we lost what was left of our innocence in wrestling.
With Eddy, we are witnessing the end of an era.
To my memory, he is the first WWE Champion to reach the top, defy every common convention that surrounded the title. He was not heroic like Bret Hart. He was not brawny and superheroic like Hogan. He was not a sex symbol like Shawn Michaels. He was not big and vicious like Triple H. He was everything that most promoters felt unmarketable: he was defiant in many ways to those conventions. He entertained with a street sense that embraced the Latino community, and touched the hearts of a wrestling audience that loved the bad guy. He was not vicious like Steve Austin, but a man with a good heart and bad intentions.
