[ The young man in the faded grey yukata is clearly not familiar with camera phones. The angle is offset, aimed more at the wall behind him than at his face, and the lamp to the side is casting his face in odd shadows. Those familiar with the place might recognize the distinctive decor of Eerie House - where else are you going to get that old- ( Read more... )

Yeah, there's other humans here, amongst a number of other species.

[But the fact that they put one in Mazoku seems a little strange.]

[ No, not strange. Cruel. ]

I don't suppose there's a running list of those other species, is there?

Not exactly, but as far as I'm aware, humans, those with abilities and otherwise, seem to make up a good portion of those brought here. Others include vampires, demons, witches, and the like.

Ukiyo itself is a floating city that acts as a spiritual crossroads. The natives are spirits, just like the guests are, and everyone with a fansuwoth is someone with a contract who was tricked into this world from their own.

Vampires. ...Why's it always have to be vampires?

Wait. Floating?

[He blinks at that, possibly even amused with such a reply (it's a first, at least), although it doesn't quite color his expression.]

Not a fan of them, I take it.

Metaphorically speaking. It's a place that holds no existence within the real world or the afterlife, but does act as a link between them.

So, it's like a Nexus?

Basically.

You ever have one of those days where you wish life had a rewind button? Only without the actual wishing part?

[All the damn time.]

Yet it doesn't. We all were tricked into coming here. It isn't a contract you'll ever see, so you just push forward and do what you can.

Story of my life.

[ He leans in closer, voice dropping not quite to a whisper. ]

But let's go back a minute to the part where there's vampires here.

[Blinks. How to approach this...]

They're under control. Don't worry about it.

I would love to not worry about it. Defining 'under control' would go a long way toward helping with that.

They're from my world.

[Pauses, a breath expelled. He'll need to explain that, too, won't he.]

...

It's against the law for those in my world to recklessly bite, or harm, humans. The individuals here know and have lived by those rules in our society, and would be complete idiots to believe they could suddenly disregard the fact.

Regardless, anyone who is brought here with particularly inhuman dietary needs are given what they need to sustain them, via their house owner.

So, what you're saying is, now that they're away from your world and your laws and your law enforcement, the undead leech patrol is totally going to continue to remain voluntarily fangless. Out of the goodness of their unbeating hearts.
