[ The video opens with Ed sitting on the floor of his room in Waremono, an old, battered suitcase sitting nearby. It's opened with books, a red coat, some quills and ink pens, and a few other odds and ends packed neatly inside. Ed currently has his journal in one hand, a pen in the other which he twirls in his fingers before making notes every ( Read more... )

Have you looked into the cactus tea at all yet?

A friend of mine was given it during the few months she was here, before she turned eighteen. She saved some of it in case of emergency.

[Not that Yuuki ended up using it much, but this isn't important-! He has to wonder how many she took recently, however, and if she actually has any left.]

Yeah, but the side effects aren't. Whoever created the substance was one step ahead of us.

Side effects?

As far as any of us really know, it's meant to be taken solely by those who are underage. Anyone eighteen and older who takes it will experience a temporary, but relatively severe loss of any one of the senses, although only sight and hearing have been displayed on the network, from what I've seen in my time here.

...Shit. [ That doesn't sound good at all. ] Then again, once the compound is figured out, we might be able to alter it a little so the side effects aren't as bad.

[He nods in agreement, before pausing] ...and I can imagine the trials will be executed on volunteers who are aware of potential consequences, regardless to how temporary they may last, right?

[A hunter's instinct, perhaps, or maybe just recalling the fact that Ed stated earlier that he doesn't wish to resort to breaking the law. Not that Zero fully trusts either reply. He does seem to want to do this for the benefit of the rest, however.]

Of course. I'm not into that mad scientist bullshit. If I do any tests, it'll be volunteer only. And they'll be fully informed.

[ And despite how flippant he sounds, his expression is serious. ]

Science that doesn't benefit the people is no science at all.

[He simply nods again, understanding. Content with that sort of reply. The idea of doing anything upon another without their consent is not only a sore area for him, personally, but one that he actively prevents and stops in his work at home. There's no saying he shouldn't try, here, if and when he can.]

Let me know how things progress, if you wouldn't mind?

[ A slight pause as he considers Zero for a moment, then shrugs. ]

Sure thing. Equivalent Exchange for helping me out.
