[ Video ]

[ The angle of the video suggests that, perhaps, Sousuke has no idea that it’s set to video. Set down somewhere, likely near his elbow, it points up at him, takes in the high collar of his shirt, the underside of his chin, and the shaggy hair that partially conceals his face. One hand hovers near his mouth, two fingers pinched against a lit ( Read more... )

[Kanda's tone is about as flat as the line of his mouth. Distinctly unimpressed with Aizen's ominous tone, though perhaps that's do to a lack of familiarity with it, there never the less an edge to the like of his shoulders and the flick of his eyes at the fansuwoth.]

The meaning of a promise is in the keeping of it. It can't be lost unless the promise itself is discarded. And discarding it at all is a cowards reaction.

Is it?

[ There's a flicker of recognition in his eyes, proof that he's not too far gone into the drink or the curse. ]

Then you would keep a promise indefinitely, regardless of its nature or those involved in its forging?

That's what a promise is. Forsaking it just because things get hard isn't an option.

[Someone has a dangerously low opinion of promise breakers.]

I see. And what would you do if lives were lost in the keeping of a promise? Keep it still or discard it?

[...As if that's not what happened already, but it darkens his eyes.]

Like I said, discarding it isn't an option.

So you've also the courage of your convictions? Good to know.

[ A faint smile, and he changes the subject. ]

How did your venture go?

[His eyes narrow momentarily, because of course he does. But he doesn't press to defend his own character.]

Too heavily guarded. Getting caught on the way in was unavoidable, and there was a better option. So I joined the guard.

[ An eyebrow arches, amused and, perhaps, impressed. ]

A clever decision, that one. Infiltration is, occasionally, the only neat means by which we can accomplish our goals. How do you find the work thus far?

Don't think I'm afraid of getting my hands dirty.

[Coolly phrased or no, it's a statement stemming from injured pride.]

But it's something to do that's worthwhile at least, and it was better than inviting suspicion.

Given I've no fear of the same, I don't.

[ It's mildly spoken, Sousuke knowing something of injured pride. ]

I've no idea how some of you manage to avoid being cast as an entertainer, yet I confess myself envious just the same.

Sir Tottori doesn't care.

[Kanda snorts, though it's possible the noise was a laugh, if a little disapproving.]

About much of anything.

[Someone desperately needs to teach Kanda how to transition subject, because after a beat of silence he proves abruptly informative.]

I might be able to get you a blade, if you're still in the market for one, and provided you know how to use it, but it will take time.

[ Accustomed to dealing with the abruptness of the Espada, Sousuke follows the change of subject easily enough. ]

I am, yes.

[ A smile curves his lips, confident and certain. ]

Given that I've been wielding one for nearly three centuries, I can assure that yes, I know how to use it.

Three centuries.

[Kanda Yuu, the voice of disbelief.]

[The gears in his head are turning. But Kanda's thoughts are self-important and secret for the moment.]

You'll have to elaborate.

It is not unheard of for a shinigami to live for thousands of years. In some cases, twenty thousand is considered young.
