[Her expression is gentle and open. She finds no shame in what she does] You might not be one of those people, but they do exist.

[Phedre dips her head slightly in greeting and shfits again to get comfortable] Pleased to meet you, Lord Kanji. [her expression suggests she's teasing him by keeping up the 'Lord' thing] I introduced myself in my post, but my name is Phedre.

[He squirms and frowns, trying to think of how that could work. He'd kinda liked when Neji had pulled on his hair but that hadn't hurt and--Kanji flushed and shook his head hard at the thoughts that brought up.]
I guess I... won't ever get it. But I told you I'm not--
[He scowls for a moment, feeling like he's being teased and not liking it at all.] But yeah, I heard. Nice to meetcha, Phedre-san.

[And then, because she's curious about this too:] What House have you been put into?

[And he sighs. There are bruises, yellow-green ones, over his skin, but it might be hard to see them in the tiny screen.]
Inoshishi. The rebel house.

[Well, Phedre's been around bruises enough in her lifetime to notice them. She pauses, wondering how to approach the subject delicately]
Ah. Do you like it there? I assume you fit the house's canon...

I...don't hate it? I don't like this whole place. Sellin' people and forcing 'em to do... that even when they really don't wanna--
Room's small but it ain't so bad now that I have another light to work by, and old man Ino... I can't ever just lie back and let him beat me but he's mostly fair about things.
What do you mean by canon, though?

But you don't have to repay your debt through sex. There are other ways, aren't they?
[She doesn't look to pleased about the beatings, but--well, hey. She got whipped a lot for running away in her childhood growing up in one of the Houses, so.]
A canon is the qualities a house looks for when contracting people to them. In my world there are Thirteen Houses: Alyssum, Balm, Bryony, Camellia, Cereus, Dalia, Eglantine, Gentian, Heliotrope, Jasmine, Mandrake, Orchis, and Valerian. Each House has a motto and a canon.
Camellia, for example, has the canon of perfection. They only take the most perfect people into their House, and their motto is "Without fault or flaw." Orchis's motto is "joy in laughter" with the house canon of 'mirth'. Cereus is pale fragility, with their motto being "all loveliness fades."
[She makes an 'and so on' gesture.] It's why this world is so familiar and easy for me to adjust to.

Oh. I guess I kinda fit? I'm not gonna let nobody own me without a fight. So I'm sorta a rebel, but that ain't all of me. I don't know if there is one for all of me.

That's alright too. This place isn't identical in every way, after all, to my world.
