White Christmas
"Guy!" Luke's insistent voice made him smile softly and glance away from the fire roaring in the grate. The red head ran to him and was only stopped by running into Guy's shins, hands resting on his knees as he looked up at him. Guy's smile brightened.
"What is it Luke?" he leaned down toward the younger boy and smiled, ruffling his long fiery mane.
"Its snowing!" he bounced excitedly, green eyes wide with enthusiasm.
Guy chuckled, "Is that so? How would you know? You've never seen snow."
"Everyone else says I've seen snow…" Luke looked down, biting his lip, looking annoyed. Guy could see him fighting to remember. The blonde frowned and leaned forward more as if to hug him before Luke smiled.
"Master Van said it was snow! The cold, white stuff that falls from the sky, right? That's what it is! He said to look out for it, and its here just like he said!" he tugged at Guy's hand, "Come on Guy!"
Guy couldn't help but laugh, grabbing his coat, "Alright, alright."
He pulled on his own coat before taking Luke's off the rack and helping him into it, watching him positively beam with pride at having followed his master's order and anticipation at the prospect of snow. Guy's lips curled into an adoring smile as he took Luke's tiny hands and slipped them into gloves. Then he wrapped a scarf around Luke's neck, the bulk of it covering half of his face and the boy pulled it down with an adorably annoyed expression, "Why do I have to have all these clothes?" He huffed, "They're annoying."
"Otherwise you'll freeze Luke, you don't like to be cold do you?"
He sighed, though it was followed quickly by a pout, "No…"
Guy smiled, "I figured, lets go see snow okay?"
The happy spark returned to Luke's gaze and he nodded fervently. Guy chuckled and took his hand, walking with him to the door before picking him up and opening it.
Luke's eyes went wide as they walked out onto a courtyard blanketed with white. His breath fogged the space before him as gasped at the white particles drifting from the sky.
Guy watched his reaction with a smile, "You were right, this is snow."
Luke giggled slightly, reaching up a small, gloved hand toward the blue sky. Guy lifted him higher, then up onto his shoulders so he could be as close as he could.
Luke laughed as he reached for the flakes, patting Guy's head as they landed in his hair.
"Guy, put me down." Even as a command his voice was happy.
Guy did just as he asked, kneeling down and helping him climb off him, then taking a handful of snow as Luke jumped into a large embankment of the icy precipitation and promptly fell over. Guy laughed as Luke got up. Luke's face was clearly moving toward upset at his laughter, thinking it mocking.
"Luke, want to learn how to make a snowball?"
"What's that?" Luke jumped toward him, laughing slightly as his body sank into the snow.
"One of these, you take snow…" he got a bit more and began packing it together, "And you shape it into a sphere, remember what those are?"
Luke made a slightly blank, curious face before closing his eyes and rubbing his head with both hands, "I thought we were on break from that stupid stuff!"
Guy laughed again, "Right, right, sorry." He smiled, "Well then you shape it like this." He made the snow into a ball.
Luke looked at it, then got a bit of snow and tried making one, succeeding only in effectively squishing the snow out of his grasp. Guy smiled, "Here."
He took Luke's hands in his and scooped up some snow. He looked up to smile at Luke, who was watching with a strange expression. Guy used Luke's hands in his to slowly fashion the snowball.
"There. You made a snowball." Guy beamed.
Luke grinned and then glanced at the ball in his hand before he giggled and tossed it at Guy, hitting him square in the forehead where it exploded all over his face.
"Hey! Luke!" Guy laughed as he wiped the snow off his face, "That was cold!"
Luke laughed again, "I hit you!"
Guy chuckled, "That you did." He then grinned, "And I'll make you pay for that." He rushed toward Luke, sweeping him up in his arms and beginning to tickle him. Luke twisted and laughed loudly, trying to get away from Guy's fingers. Guy laughed along with him, tickling him ruthlessly before falling back into a large pile of snow, Luke on top of him.
Luke's steaming breath made him look as if he was really on fire, fog billowing around his face as he looked down at Guy. The servant's breath was just as heavy, a brief blush decorating his face before he chuckled and sat up, holding Luke in his lap. They were silent for a moment, and in that moment, a rather large flake floated down. Luke watched it, and Guy's eyes fell on it as well. It drifted slowly downward, and Luke became cross-eyed as it landed directly on the tip of his nose. Guy laughed again and Luke blushed, wiping the snow flake away, pouting even as his lips twitched.
"Luke you…" Guy stopped himself from saying what he'd intended to and instead stood up, taking Luke in his arms again.
"What, Guy?" Luke looked at him, "What am I?"
Guy's eyes fell a bit and then he looked to Luke with a bright smile, "You're new to snow, try sticking out your tongue to catch some."
Luke looked confused but then stuck out his tongue, then blinked as a few flakes landed there. He pulled it back in and tasted it, then smiled, "That's fun!" He did it again and Guy's gaze softened once again.
The blonde carried him through the courtyard, chuckling as he complained of his tongue being cold.
"Stop eating it then."
Luke pouted.
Guy chuckled, sticking out his hand to catch a few slivers, "Its getting heavier."
Luke looked at him and did the same thing, sticking out his hand, making a sound of awe as he caught the flakes in his hand, watching them melt on his glove.
"Guy, why does it go away?" the red head tilted his head curiously.
Guy blinked holding him a bit tighter, "Well, its ice. It melts."
"But why?" Luke's gaze was that combination of determined and annoyed that made Guy's heart ache.
"Uh…" Guy searched for an answer, then smiled, "Because it needs to. Snow can't be around all the time, otherwise things like plants can't grow."
"Why do we need plants." The redhead's voice was as stubborn as his expression, "I like snow better."
Guy laughed, "Don't you like to climb trees?"
Luke nodded, still pouting.
"Well if snow was always here, the trees wouldn't be around for long."
Luke made an endearing indecisive face, "But…can't we have both?"
Guy smiled, "For the time being."
"Why can't we have it all the time?"
"Because then it wouldn't be as special."
Luke frowned, "But…I want snow."
Guy shook his head amusedly, "You wouldn't like it if you had it year round."
"Yes I would!"
Guy chuckled, "Okay Luke."
"So I can have snow?"
"You can for now."
"But I want it all the time!"
"Too bad. It's a season. We talked about those-"
"Gu-y!"
"Right right, sorry."
