I managed to squeeze the episode into my schedule this morning, yay! *happy dance* So here's my reaction:
[Here there be SPOILERS]I didn't like this episode as much as 3x01. It's just a matter of personal taste, perhaps. I'm very curious if other people saw this episode differently and if it will make me see this ep in or some scenes in a different light, too. There were

I thought Chin's storyline was one of the best, though I did think that it's bound to go wrong (but I love that sort of drama.)
I'm with you on the carguments; they were forced and aggressive and didn't work very well for me.
The forensics thing... I think it'll be maybe a moment per ep, so hopefully you'll be all right? I've gotten used to it, but I can understand not everyone is like that.
As for Cath as a spy -- I thought it was a very realistic scene, because this is frequently how these things are done (but extremely simplified.) And yeah, she should be at the end of her leave by now, so maybe next week she's back in uniform?
I don't mind your opinions, I shared my own and they weren't all good, either. But I did enjoy myself watching it, even if it wasn't perfect.
It always makes me wait for the other shoe to drop. ;-) I DDK's performance so far.
I'm relieved I'm not the only one who thought so. There's no fun for me in watching that kind of carguments.
I hope so. I wish they'd tone it down a bit, like it was in S1 (even Jack-in-the-box didn't faze me then, because things like that didn't happen all the time).
Really? That's interesting, I didn't know it's done like that in RL. I watched the ep right after choosing a password for a new site and was all like "really?". *g* Ah, so she's on leave? I somehow missed that part. Makes more sense now.
The fact that what I liked the least in this ep were the Steve-Danny scenes dampened my enjoyment a lot. If I ignore those scenes, there were a lot of great things I did enjoy... but it's never going to be a fav of mine.
DDK really rocked, I'm looking forward to what he'll do with his storyline.
I am somewhat a purveyor of intelligence gathering. Somewhat, my greatest fondness is for police procedure. (Yes, I'm strange.) And yes, she's on leave, it was mentioned in the previous ep, so I'll presume that continues.
Something tells me I should really ask for your input if I ever happen to write anything with police procedure in it - it might prevent my readers from dying laughing. ;-)
Thank you! *hugs* It's ridiculous how nervous I felt about posting this (actually still do). Your encouragement really helped, you know. ♥
I'm really relieved it isn't just me. I found it glaring, too. I don't need marriage jokes, but if we get them, I wish they'd put them in an ep where their "marriage" actually seems like a good thing. :P
The way I see it there are three options when it comes to reading opinions you don't agree with: #1 Ignore them, in which case no harm no foul. #2 Engage the person you disagree with in conversation, creating discussion and possibly changing views or seeing new perspectives. #3 complain about other people harshing the squee. All those are valid, though I find #3 irritating on a personal level because I think passive aggression is a destructive method of communication, but none of those involve invalidation and anyone who tells you that you not entitled to the opinion you write is an asshole. Just putting that out there.
*hugs* <3 and *highfive*
We don't have to agree, but mutual respect is key :)
I am not a fan of the marriage trope and tbh, I don't think Danny is either, considering his feelings regarding the institution.
I really prefer option #2, at least if the opinions expressed aren't so aggressive or exclusive that any attempt at conversation seems futile (which would be the other, equally unpleasant side of the only-squees-are-allowed coin).
*nods* It must be possible to respect each other and coexist peacefully without having to agree all the time (funny enough, Steve and Danny are great at that, when they're at their best).
After what Danny said to Doris regarding marriage, his comment in this episode takes on a rather dark meaning. I wonder if that was a blunder or intentional.
The burial at sea was beautiful and I wish it would have lasted longer vs. switching off to a car chase. I always made the observation that Steve might have been referring to his own traumas when he said you never get over something that Chin went through. The highlight of the whole episode was Chin's grief. From the burial, to the hugs at HQ, to that lovely scene with Danny at the end
( ... )
I mentioned the gratuitous shots of Cath to my hubby who followed up with the gratuitous shots of Steve coming out of the ocean in S1 in his soaking wet shorts, so I concede him a point.
*waves* I want to mention, that there's is a qualitative and quantitive difference in the way male and female bodies are sexualised in media.
Steve may bare all, but the camera work doesn't pan over his abs and ass the way it did over Catherine's, mainly because, the camera work was supposed to be the pov of the WitSec guy checking her out and be a surrogate of of the audience.
Danny's ass shots are also never put into a single frame the way Catherine's was or the way Lori's was in S2.
I think there's a false equivalence in trying to say that that the men and the women are equally objectified, when they're not, even within this quite egalitarian show vis a vis the showing of skin.
I gave my hubby 'a point' which means in K999's household that I didn't fully agreed with him on the subject. And the very things you mentioned we actually discussed (go us) but my response to this post was long enough already and I didn't feel like going into detail here. :)

I'm with you; not a fave, not bad either.

I agree that the marriage joke was forced (and the carguments in this ep in general), I found it particularly glaring.

My dime on the subject.
