Moving!

Aug 05, 2005 07:24

I've decided that, by this time next year, I'll be moved into my own studio apartment. It's going to be a major bitch to pay for, and I'm still not sure how I'll come up with $1200 a month to pay for all my bare necessities (including food, rent, and, heaven forbid, the INTERNET??), but I'm determined to do this! It seems like everybody around me ( Read more... )

Rent - $800
DSL - $25
Phone - $10
Utilities - $30
Gas - $60
Insurance - $60
Websites - $15
Food - $150
Misc. - $50

That's my current breakdown for the monthly expenses :x. A rent of $800 is only if I'm lucky, I'm thinking. But who knows; maybe by next year I'll find something for even less? ('Course, the prices could also dramatically rise. XO)

Well I was trying to imagine yourself living off your so-called 'horrible cooking'.

Ouch. Gas is expensive.

How big is your ideal apartment? Or rather, how much can $800 get you? :o

It'll be a one-room/one-bathroom studio apartment between 500 and 700 square feet :3.

Anyway, there's no need for cooking skills when it comes to sandwiches, pasta, salads and, of course, ramen!!

Man, I wish I could get a studio. That would be awesome.

Unfortunately, I don't have the money for it, (nor do I think that I have the mental stability to handle it -_-) because some of that money is going towards my Otakon trip. ^_^;

How did you get Water, Trash, and Electric to be just $30 per month? I need this trick. We pay twice that each month just for electric.

It's a studio apartment. There's only one room to light and I'm the only one who will be doing anything in it. In any case, I'm hoping to get an apartment where water and trash pick-up will be included in the rent fee (most of the ones I've been looking at have had this).

Not only that, I'm starting to feel like I'm a burden to the household ...

That's how I felt right before I moved out. I mean ... it's your home, but once you reach a certain point, you start to feel like you're more like a guest who has overstayed a visit.

But hey ... people totally give you free food and junk when they know you're poor! *nod* Sometimes. And you could probably get by with less money on the grocery bill. $150 (~$180 CDN) is what me and my bf spend on food a month for both of us, and we eat pretty well.

You have to pay for trash pickup? O_o Guh, lots of random expenses. But having a little space to call your own is definitely worth it.

Ooh, I'm glad $150 was overshooting it @_@. Originally I had it at $200 thinking that that would be around $6~$7 on food a day, based on fast food generally being $3 a meal--I don't do grocery shopping much on my own so I guess I wouldn't have an idea of how much it would cost if I actually made my own food. :D() Another reason I should live on my own: LEARN TO FREAKING COOK, and take care of myself in general. 9_9

Heh heh, and yes, I shall practice my puppy eyes for next year so that I raise my chances of bumming stuff off others. XD

With this you should also learn about coupon clipping, and price comparison. You can sometimes shave quite a bit of money off a bill from both of these techniques.
