That was really powerful and intense. You did a great job of showing how a pre-teen girl, even one who could have ruled the world, thinks. The fixation on thinking about her mother really drives home how devastating that loss was and shows Mariemaia's unwillingness to be vulnerable around people she doesn't really know yet. Her confusion about the changes in her life show through very clearly.

I really like the part about Zechs' grave and Mariemaia wondering why her parents are not together. It was poignant and full of symbolism in a way that was attuned to the flow of both the series and Endless Waltz.

Thank you very much! I love Mariemaia; she has so many issues, poor little thing. I'm glad you liked the fic! :)

Wow, I really liked this. Mariemaia is (in my opinion) one of the most interesting characters to explore. I love how proud she is, and how mistaken in some things she is (I am pretty sure emperors do cry). But <33333333 Mariemaia!

Also don't worry about Gen(arti) she kind of fell off the face of the Earth Friday night, but I am pretty sure she will be back from extraterrestrial surfing around by Monday or so :)

Thank you! I think Mariemaia is really interesting, too-it's kind of a shame she had such a small part in the series. I'm glad you like the fic! :)

Oh, Mariemaia! This is lovely, all through. You really capture her, how she's too adult and just a kid at once, and less adult than she thinks she is; I love how you play with her analytical distance from other people (and need for them all the same), and her uncertainty and uncomfortableness about her own emotions.

I think my favorite moment was the one where she thinks the wheelchair is like a throne -- it's not what I expected, and yet it felt exactly right for Mariemaia. Of course she would. But really, my favorite thing about this fic is ALL OF IT. Thank you so much, mystery author!

No-longer-mysterious author is thrilled you liked it! This was my first try at writing Mariemaia, so I'm glad it worked. Thanks for coming up with the awesome prompt! :)

My... How come this exchange has so many jewels laying out there?
A very powerful and subtle piece. I oculd try to point favorite parts but the truth is, I loved everything about it. Wow. And thank you.
And I don't have a Mariemaia icon so I'm going for Heero instead
