Ooo. I like the tension in this piece. It's very dark and gritty, but that's somehow fitting. I love the contrast between the memory and the feelings it engenders.

Thank you so much! Duo has always been the most challenging character for me to write, so I'm glad this worked for you.

He's a very multi-faceted character, I know. But that's also what makes him fun to play with.

Oh, this was so fucking fabulous. This is exactly the kind of atmosphere I wanted :D The voice and the writing were great, too. It all felt authentic and so sad. I loved it. Thank you!!

Whyyyyy don't you have more GW fic :( :( I would read it all tonight if you did, I swear. You're a really gifted writer. Really good fanfic elevates the material it comes from and this fic totally did that. Pretty please write more GW?? LOL.

You're too nice! ♥ But really, I do hope that all the great fics from this exchange have inspired people to continue participating in the fandom. Seeing the amount of love that still exists for GW fic has certainly made me want to write. =)

This was an incredible piece to find as I'm flitting my way about GW fandom. You've got a fantastic talent for getting into Duo's head. The effect the war had on him and how he sees the world as a result of that war is so tragically portrayed here. His loss of peace... his difficulty in dealing with silence... constantly reaching out to the past, unable to separate himself from it... You leave us with a man who's trying to find some meaning in a world he doesn't know anymore. I'm touched by your soul-weary characterization, your depth of story-telling, and just the way you get Duo. Thanks for sharing this wonderful look at a complex character.

Thank you for your lovely review. ♥ It was incredibly difficult to get into the PTSD aspect of this fic, or to even attempt to understand what it would feel like to be forced to move on after war. There is so much room to completely make a mess of that as a writer, so I'm glad/relieved that it came across well for you. =)
