Ohh another lovely ficlet, Gwinna! The penetration of the sand is nicely reminiscent of how the Force itself is described. And the Force whispers to him in his dreams of what's to come :)

Hey at least you can write FICLETS, I can't even manage that anymore, ha. I do admire anyone who can write something plotty and multi-chaptered.

in his soul's desert Lovely, sad imagery here - I liked how you wrote that he sees only in red, except for dreams.

Ficlets are nice! And building up to a longer fic takes practice, yeah ... how about one of those 'Five Things That Luke Never Did, and One That He Attempted' sort of fics? It's a least a way to tenuously construct a linking bit of narrative, then who knows where you'll go from there!
