Much earlier this year, I asked norfacoflandra to please not cut down the pokeweeds under our spruce trees, because I'd like to try dyeing with the berries this fall.

Yesterday, he tells me I should get those berries picked before the birds get them all :) I get home from the Fiber Guild meeting to find a small bag of poke berries that J and R have picked for me ( Read more... )

And, yeah, the still-stark white of the linen and cotton is CRAZY!

The linen and cotton might have taken some color if you mordanted them first.

True - this was a limited sample. I soaked all of the fiber in vinegar & water, nothing involved at all. I was most interested in the results on wool, anyway.

I looked at the wool this morning, after it dried, and it's definitely magenta - like printer-ink magenta!

The linen even with mordant, probably wouldn't have taken much of the dye. Linen just doesn't like to be colors unless they are in the blue/green spectrum with natural dyes.

The cotton would have with an alum mordant I think...
