A Vicious Rumor

OK, Y'all. Not cool news. Mr. Gall called me last night. He was talking to Mr. Goldman, who was at school yesterday and heard that Ms. Hulcher was not coming back. Something about her husband getting a job in another town. I probably shouldn't tell you when I haven't heard for sure, and I intend to get to the bottom of it when I return from ( Read more... )

Well. . .a great murder mystery would be The Street Lawyer by John Grishom. It's my favorite out of his books.
It's about this attorney (soon to be a partner) at a huge law firm (basically). After his floor gets hijacked by a homeless man who calls himself "Mister", he stops and thinks about how superficial and self-centered his life is, while silmultaneously working out the legal aspescts of his divorce. He has the chance to be a partner- something he's been working hard for his whole life. . .but something inside him made him want to help people other than himself. He becomes a non-profit attorney for the homeless and volunteers in a soup kitchen. He is also trying to unfold the mystery of "Mister"- who he was, and why he did what he did. It's definitely a page turner. . .but there are pretty graphic deaths and Grishom even manages to throw in an autopsy! However. . .it's a good 300 or so pages long. . .but the print is larger than that of the Hitchhiker's guide. It's really fun to read. And it's edgy and up to date.

Teehee! you know me oh so well, ms. h. For comedic refrences...i like Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging. A bit more a a silly book than others. But it kinda gives you a taste of England and "another culture". PLUS i learned new words from that book!!! hah. umm ...African American... Anything by Virginia Hamilton or Walter Dean Myers. Mommie gave me these people. She also suggests Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. (i'd trust her though...she worked at a children's bookstore for many a year!) MYSTERY! now you're talkin! The series by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown are certainly DELIGHTFUL! I can NEVER put one down. They all take place in Crozet, Virginia. It's a little town...that has a taste for murder. It's a woman named Harry who is the postmistress in Crozet who hears all the gossip and such. She brings her cat, Mrs. Murphy, and dog, Tucker, who "help" solve the mystery. Some good ones are Pay Dirt...Murder at Monticello...Murder on the Prowel...Pawing Through the Past...there a whole bunch...there's a new one that i haven't ( ... )
