I did notice that! Along with a number of other plot dopinesses (many of which Rachel pointed out when she read it, if only I'd remembered to look up her review in advance).
I got about three-quarters of the way through and thought, "Wait a minute, didn't Rachel review this and dislike it?" I should know better than to rely on Goodreads reviews.
I almost want to read the second one, though, just for the laughs. I read a review saying that her idea of conveying Erudition is to have all the Erudite talk like dictionaries, which I'm sure I would find hilarious when I wasn't finding it annoying.
