Merlin Fic Pet Peeves

H/C: If no one is physically hurt, it shouldn't be hurt/comfort. If someones feelings are hurt. It’s called angst.

Gen: If your fic has a relationship in it even if it’s canon, that is not gen.

Name Smooshing: It’s the devil. THE DEVIL. So many times I go which Knight is Arwen?

RP: If you are pretending to be a character talking to yourself in ( Read more... )

HAHAHA got you too didn't it!! The first few times I saw it I always had this really puzzled look on my face because I just couldn't figure it out.

Arwen: me too! I'm sorry but every time I see it I think Lord of the Rings and picture Liv Tyler. I also have a wee bit of a problem with any combination of the names Merlin and Arthur that isn't Merlin and Arthur.

My only other pet peeve: epithets. Especially when they're in great number.

That's all. I'm otherwise okay with almost everything.

Oh goodness, that just makes Arwen even funnier. How did that even catch on?

So, you hate it when Merlin is hurt and he can't catch his breath and all he can do is... Arthur... please... I... *CRIES*

Another peeve I have is using ' and not " for dialog. My brain can not process it as dialog. It MUST be a British thing. Because I randomly picked up King's Dark Tower series and three of the books happen to be UK prints and the whole thing is filled with apostrophes.

Nope, I'm a dumbass and read epithets as ellipses.

I have THREE WHOLE novels filled with single quotes. I'm slowly getting used to it but holy crap. Not as bad as over at FF.net I saw someone using - THAT as a quote. It was painful. But it was a H/C so I kept reading it.

It drives me BONKERS trying to hunt for the link to the fic, or even hunting for the summary!

Okay, that just adds a whole new level of laughs to Arwen. I love it.

Fic Headers: If they are more than one scroll in comms, I hate you a little.

OMG. THIS. SO MUCH.

One of my biggest pet peeves are people that put down their fics in their headers and say it's crap or that it sucks. OMG. DON'T POST IT THEN. If you think it sucks why should I waste my time reading it?? I'm not gonna give you pity comments.

I also hate bad dialogue. Nothing can ruin a fic like really badly done dialogue.

Overly medical/clinical terms for body parts in sex scenes. Anus? NOOO.

I KNOW RIGHT. There's nothing I hate more than having to hunt for the fic link because the person is too busy spending 800 words explaining the fact they ate cherries on a Wednesday and made them think of this awesome fic idea. WHY does this need to be shared in the comm! Esp when it's on the fic too.

Oh that's a good one. I bet those same people that add, 'Mods Delete if this isn't allowed'.

That is so true. I can handle bad descriptions but when Merlin is fighting a dragon and he goes. "OMG DUDE DO WHAT I TELL YOU, MAN."

I'm going to add giant fic banners to the TOO LONG fic headers. You don't see them in the Merlin fandom (THANK GOD) but in my other fandom (LOTR) there are a few people that think that they need to have fic banners for EVERY fic they write, even if the fic is like 300 words, so here you have a giant banner that's bigger than the fic itself and I'm always, WTF?? (and these same people have ATROCIOUS photoshop/graphics skills and the banners are usually painful to look at)

Oh god yes, the 'Mods Delete if this isn't allowed' people. That drives me nuts. Just READ THE COMM RULES. It's not that hard. I know sometimes there are confusing bits to it (esp. with tagging in certain comms, it's like calculus) but then ASK A MOD before you post.

Ack.

YES! There is a lot of UGLY ass fic banners in SPN fandom. Granted it does help you remember a fic which is why I think people do it. (Hello tag your fic so I can TRACK it) But, it hurts my eyes. I can't bring myself to read their fic thinking omg you people are BLIND. If this banner is awful I bet the fic is too. They need to find friends to bully into making banners if they HAVE to have one. I'd be willing to help save the world from ugly fic banners.

I get a sick bit of GLEE from deleting those posts when they do break the rules. It's like hahahahah YES I THIS IS NOT ALLOWED AND YES I WANT TOO DELETE YOUR ASS. MWHAHAHAH.
