It came out of a comment I saw in the Racefail09 about how it seemed arrogant that the fantasy was always about one person saving the world/universe/country...
and I thought... hmmm, interesting

Oh yes, fantasy and sf is All About the Lone Saviour.

Thinking about counterexamples, Watchmen is a pretty god deconstruction of the whole vigilante as saviour thing.
