A new place!

I signed the lease on the apartment yesterday! It's on Main Street in downtown Minot, across the street from the old train station (now the train museum), and next door to the Taube Museum of Art. This place is literally a little hole in the wall behind an old brick locksmith building. You have to drive down the alley to get to the door, which is ( Read more... )

Congratulations! you have to show pics of your new place!, and have to throw a housewarming party! :).

What did the audience say about your "masterpiece"?

Hehe, I would hardly call it a masterpiece. I would call it more of a 'giving them what they want to hear' piece. My REAL poetry no one reads. Hehe..

If you present anything that rhymes, the group is thrilled. They were probably just dissappointed that my poem kind of made some sort of sense. heh! ^_^

Congrats on the apartment. It sounds wonderful. And your poem is great... I write poetry from time to time, but yours was quite good!

I always wanted to be an artistic type. While they are not necessarily rich, they always seem to be happy because they are doing what they want to do. I love the way certain people can pull of strange outfits or walk around with unkempt hair and they just look so artistic. I was jealous that whenever I tried to mimic that I just looked like a little girl who couldn't match her clothing or brush her hair. Haha.

I've noticed with poetry, the new trend is to just throw random things together and call it deep. Now, I firmly believe that poetry is an art, and it is impossible to rate art, and that to be a work of art it just has to stir some kind of meaning and emotion and feeling (no matter how simple). But I have books of modern poetry and I just am much less moved by it.

I hear you about "artistic" types. That's the group of people I feel the most comfortable around. They're more in touch with a certain atmosphere that I find really appealing. I love the honesty and earthiness.

I really like your poem, too. It flows together nicely and definitely creates a mood. Good job. :)

Yeah, I was reading through a book of 'Modern Love Poems' and it was complete and utter gibberish. I mean, it wasn't even intriguing or provoking gibberish.. it was just jibberish. *shakes head*

Now that we're all critiquing poetry, I'm self-concious of the little bit of my poem I posted.. haha! ^_^

Sounds like you found yourself an interesting little pad.
Also I like what you said about poetry and art. It's sort of how I dislike art for the sake of being artistic. There are too many people who act strange and do strange and new things just to be the first ones to have done it or justto be more outlandish than the last guy. Art is about brining forward a message and telling the world. I guess thats why I havn't painted anything in years. I don't have anything to say and the few things I would like to explain, I don't know how.

You paint?! I want to see some of your work! And I completely understand what you mean, 'I don't have anything to say and the few things I would like to explain, I don't know how.' *nods* Art for the sake of art is just tedious and I know that too well to force a poem or song or picture that pretends to be deep, but is just shallow and meaningless. ^_^

unfortunetly a lot of my art has been lost or thrown away. I say I paint but im not great or anything and it was a long time ago. I went through bursts. Im still finding myself artisticly and im not sure paint was the best way for me but it was fun while I did it.

Ahhh! Never throw away art! Even if it's bad art.. as long as it's yours it's sacred! lol.. (I'm really one to talk.. this poem I posted will probably be scrapped in the next month or two.. haha!)

You should try photography if you haven't already.. I'm not very good with a brush or a pen.. but I have so much fun illustrating the way I see the world with my camera. The lens is a literal way for people to see what I see. It's amazing! ^_^
