Yay I don't know anything about astronomy save a few constellations, but I love meteor showers so I am now personally depending on you to alert me when one is going to happen!
Camping stories like that are always fun. My friends and I used to sit out on a dock on a lake all night just sitting around talking, drinking corona with a few fishing poles [even though no one ever fished except a few people] and watched the lightning bugs. Something about being out in the woods with a bunch of friends always manages to create great memories. Especially when you and your friend are pondering life on a dock and one of your guy friends comes up and pushes both of you into the lake.
LOL.. no problem! May 5th will be the Aquarids meteor shower from Halley's Comet... I haven't read up on when it's peak time will be or how many they expect, but it originates from the constellation Aquarius and usually averages around 60 meteors per hour.. hehe! *Yeah, I know, I'm a nerd...*
Yeah, we sat around drinking mostly Mikes Hard Lemonaid and I THOUGHT I saw a firefly, but it just turned out to be a soda can catching a bit of moonlight. LOL.. and I was so happy too! I've never seen lightning bugs before, and it's on my 'Things to See Before I Die' list.. but we DO have them here, so no worries.. maybe next meteor shower/fishing trip/canoeing trip. Hehe!
*sigh* Fun lakeside memories. Two words... skinny dipping. Nuff said. ^_^
Yeah, a lot of people didn't know... I was just talking about it at work, and all of my co-workers got mad at me for 'not telling them'.. like its my job or something.. haha! But the people I DID tell, didn't seem to be interested! That makes me sad in the face! ^_^
haha yeah it's not your job to tell people. I would have been totally interested if I would have known. It seems like it would have been kool to watch and what not. It would make me sad in the face too.
I don't even really consider myself to be an astronomy nut, but people seem to look to me for advice and information. Like seriously, I was at work one day and someone pulled me outside to ask me what a certain star was.. I got lucky because I knew it was Vega (the third brightest star in the northern sky).. but still. That kind of cemented my fate as the 'astronomy girl'.. haha! ^_^
Well, you could always come to my camping trip in the Badlands of North Dakota the first weekend of June! Seriously.. do you think you could make it? PLEEEEAAAASEEE????
