I think...that lots of people believe that LJ is dragging them down, making them depressed, so on and so forth, and that the obvious solution to the problem is to leave entirely. I've seen lots of entries on my f-list of people saying they're deleting their LJs, going on hiatus, giving up the internet because it's making them a terrible person, and I don't think that's the case.
I think that if you are comfortable with life in general, the internet is hardly going to bring you down so much that you can't deal with life anymore. If it is affecting you that much, maybe you do need a break, but rather in the form of giving this place a moderation of attention rather than abandoning it entirely. Only keep up with those you really care about, or just don't read your f-list at all. *shrugs* I hardly ever do anything more than skim my own
